Well the German tour started in September of 1996 and was assigned to the 18th Military Police Brigade, 536th MP Company in Hohenfels Germany. After about 2 1/2 years at Hohenfels I moved to Heidelberg Germany. Still assigned to the 18th Military Police Brigade. While Heidelberg was a great city to live and work in I really missed the small town atmosphere of Hohenfels. Hohenfels was located in the Bavarian State of Germany, while Heidelberg was in the state of Baden-Wurtenburg. Heidelberg is a mainly tourist/student city with the US Army having a large presence. Heidelberg at the time was the Headquarters for USAREUR and the US Army V Corps. Along with numerous other smaller commands. The Old Town (Altstadt) was a wonderful place to walk and just relax while stopping off at a bar or cafe. The pedestrian only zone was lined with shops and bars. The Castle was a beautiful place to visit and wonder around inside. The Pedestrian only zone in the Altstadt. Alte Brücke (old bridge) and Brückentor (Bridge gate).
The Castle illumination was always a fun night. Sitting alongthe banks and watching the fireworks. Usually put on 3 timesduring the summer.Castle IlluminationDates 2007
